In this story, BBC Tech correspondent Rory Cellan Jones talks about his experience participating in the medical trial run by engineers from Imperial College who have founded the startup, SERG Technologies in collaboration with Dr Yen Tai, Consultant Neurologist at Charing Cross Hospital, London . Participation in the trial was completed at Mr Cellan Jones’ home, where for a two week period he would complete exercises designed to mimic the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Score (UPDRS) assessments used by neurologists at their clinics. The data from the exercises is processed through the device’s artificial intelligence algorithms giving the system data for learn from. The team at SERG Technologies has recently been awarded £1 million a project grant from the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) . The team aims to continue their research with a view to commercialising the monitoring device.
