Meet the SERG Team

SERG Technologies is a digital health solutions provider. Our core business is providing clinical monitoring solutions for neurodegenerative movement disorders, with a special focus in Parkinson's and Essential Tremor. In 2018, we received funding from the Med Tech Super Connector to develop our core idea and founded the Company in 2019 with a team of experts in Biomechatronics and Neurotechnology from Imperial College London and Clinical Neurology experts. The Company is supported by an expert investors with detailed portfolio's in the fields of technology and healthcare.

Alastair Atkinson

Chairman

Alastair has over 30 years of industry experience, majority of which have been in medical technology high growth companies. He worked for HP in various leadership positions (UK and internationally), before becoming Global Product Director for Optos which was successfully floated on the main London market in 2006. He served as CEO and COO for DYSIS Medical Ltd managing the development of the company from start-up to full international expansion. Alastair has a BSc, MSc and an honorary PhD in various technology and business disciplines.

Dr Christos Kapatos

Chief Executive Officer

Christos has extensive professional experience in assistive and human-centric technologies. He worked as Leading Technical Officer at the Kelvin Institute in Glasgow. Served as CTO for ScotSig Ltd and Diolab SA, then as CTO for HCI Viocare Inc.; inventing, developing, and commercialising a 3D force sensor with applications in healthcare and sports. He leads SERG in its mission to empower people with Parkinson's Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases, to live healthier lives.

Dr Samuel Wilson

Chief Technology Officer

Samuel completed his PhD studying the practical applications of the technology that SERG uses and continues to develop at Imperial College London. He has been involved in several start-ups as Technical Lead, and he has raised more than £250k in funding throughout the course of his research career. With his extensive experience in prototyping and development of devices, wearable and adaptive technologies he leads the technology development in addition to the design, hardware, software and machine learning teams at SERG Technologies.

Ewan Phillips

Chief Financial Officer

Ewan is a chartered accountant (Deloitte) with a background in corporate finance who has been working at C-level in early stage MedTech companies for over 20 years. He specialises in early-stage commercialisation and has led projects resulting in NICE recommendation, national US reimbursement coverage and innovative commercial models to drive better patient outcomes rapidly at scale.

Konstantinos Dalakas

Lead Hardware Engineer

Konstantinos is a mechatronics engineer experienced in prototyping and development of connected devices, ranging from underwater robotics to award winning UAVs, IOT smart gadgets to health wearables. He has served as lead engineer in several start-ups, leading the productisation of patent pending devices from the prototype stage to the introduction to market. At SERG, he is applying his experience to deliver human centric solutions tailored towards improving user experience. Konstantinos leads the hardware development at SERG.

Dr Matthew Hopkins

Lead Engineer

Matthew is a systems engineer with a background in wearable technologies for biomedical applications. Matthew completed a PhD in sensor design for prosthetics at Imperial College London in which his work focussed primarily on monitoring devices for injury prevention in amputees. Matthew's interests lie in tackling healthcare challenges through a technology-driven approach. He joined SERG due to a shared enthusiasm for complex patient-centric problems.

Dr Thomas Martineau

Lead Machine Learning Engineer

Thomas is an engineer and researcher who specialises in robotics, signal processing and machine learning. He has experience designing medical wearable devices for assistance and rehabilitation. His PhD later focused on using complex brain signals to create novel neural interfaces at Imperial College London. During his research, Thomas had the chance to regularly interact with individuals living with Parkinson's diseases and is committed to developing wearable technologies that will improve their quality of care. Thomas leads the Machine Learning Team at SERG Technologies.

Diana Darko

Operations & Trials Manager

Diana is a services manager with a proven track record of delivering exceptional account management, building strong client relationships, service delivery, project design and implementation in education and healthcare. She focuses on operations management, human resources, policy development and trials coordination to deliver value with the SERG business, in addition to developing and cultivating successful relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Karl Tiemann

Research & Development Engineer

Karl is Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Bristol, with experience spanning a range of technical applications. His research interests include biomechanics and medical robotics: his most recent project has been the design of a novel robotic mechanism for automated breast examinations, which also involved playing an active role in Patient and Public Involvement. He is excited to be furthering his personal development at SERG and delivering value through his work on the PD.Ignite wearables and platform.

Panagiotis Papageorgiou

Machine Learning Engineer

Panagiotis is an experienced data analyst and scientist with expansive experience in algorithm design, coding, validation studies and experimental data. He has worked on a variety of projects including GPS tracking applications in shipping and integrated surveillance systems for maritime services. He brings to the SERG's Machine Learning Engineering team, his wealth of knowledge in a wide range of engineering areas ability to address a wide range of technological challenges.

Chun I Wang

User Experience Designer

Chuni is a user experience designer with a background in service design and product design. With experience in the private and public sectors, she worked with Cathay Bank, TDRI, Lion Travel Group, Decathlon UK and local councils to create better user journeys. She has won innovation awards from IBM Global Student Service Design Challenges, UXPA China, and YODEX Taiwan and participated in London Mayor's entrepreneur competition.

Henry is a systems engineer with a focus on dynamical systems and robustness. Since obtaining his PhD in cybernetics from Reading University he has worked on projects that aim to incorporate user approval and consent into assistive technology. He now works in the machine learning team, developing solutions for a user-facing human-machine interface.
